Old Greenhouse Carnations

These are the original cut flower variety, although no longer used for commercial production, they date back to the early 1900s with many of them developed and bred by our found 'Montagu Allwood', (you can read the history of the firm HERE) Commonly referred to as "Old Greenhouse Carnations" They are the older varieties of Perpetual Flowering Carnations, best grown in a greenhouse or polytunnel to get maximum flowers, and are excellent for their amazing colours and wondrously strong clove scent. They can be stood outside for the summer and moved undercover for the winter. They are a bit slower growing than the modern varieties so they flower less and are slowly in decline except with amateur growers who understand their beauty and charm!!!.
